Although one plot thread towards the conclusion of the book was a little bit predictable, another was not, and completely threw me in the last few pages. Whatever the reason, for obvious reasons Tanner can’t investigate the murder herself and instead turns to Tom Thorne, a man who she has met only briefly and knows more by reputation, to help her find the answers she so desperately seeks.

Tanner seems completed unbothered that people want to kill her and barely seems touched by her partner being killed.I only hope that when we next encounter DI Thorne that he has resolved his differences with the lovely Helen, but sadly I fear this relationship is doomed! Si l'intrigue est une agréable surprise, j'ai pourtant trouvé l'écriture moins inspirée que par le passé. But Mark Billingham has done a brilliant job of moving the story past this subject matter alone without sensationalising, trivialising or glamourising it in any way, providing the reader with an entertaining, if not occasionally heart breaking story that I would highly recommend you read. As the killers target their latest victim, Thorne takes the biggest risk of his career and is drawn into a horrifying and disturbing world in which families will do anything to protect their honour. Racing towards a twist-filled ending, Love Like Blood is another feat of masterful plotting from one of Britain's top crime novelists.

They get tantalisingly close to those responsible for the killings but the pair always stay one step ahead. A few weeks back I had a good few hours to kill driving to Stirling and back to attend Bloody Scotland so I figured what the hell, bought the audio book (I’m slowly collecting the entire Tom Thorne back catalogue that way any how) and set it to play.It deals with the subject of honour killings and really opened my eyes to what this entails and it is shocking the lengths families will go to in the name of protecting their image and their faith. Thorne was a likable character and I would definitely read another book wherein he is the main character.

When a teenage couple disappear off the subway, Thorne and Tanner have a chance to investigate a case that is anything but cold. Cette 14ème aventure de Tom Thorne (excellente série polar / thriller) se distingue avant tout par son intrigue originale: des crimes d'honneur dans les communautés musulmane, hindoue et sikh. The topic of honour killings was a novel one, but otherwise this was a straightforward police procedural. here he is back doing what he does best solving crime and crime does not come more topical that Mark Billingham's Love like Blood. e., long-running, the author must come up with interesting cases, or at least a spin on a case that does not seem too familiar to readers of crime fiction; Billingham is a master at this. His standalone thriller IN THE DARK was chosen as one of the twelve best books of the year by the Times and his debut novel, SLEEPYHEAD was chosen by the Sunday Times as one of the 100 books that had shaped the decade. I was a little confused with the chapter that indicated that a body had been found in a reservoir and there was only a minor reference to explain this later on. When Detective Inspector Nicola Tanner's partner is murdered in their own home she is left seething with the need for vengeance and justice. And the conclusion of the case is as heart thumpingly tense as it satisfying and yet also, at times, surreally calm.
