It's actually interesting - you don't need to be training to be a car mechanic to find some sort of appeal. The books, of which I believe there are currently 6 per edition, are not updated very often and seldom at the same time.

The book gets straight to the point with an easy to use index and titled paragraphs I'd recommend this to anyone studying Motor Vehicle Technology at college or even if you just want to learn something new and you don't really need to know a lot about cars to understand this book unlike any other books. I bought the Haynes Manual for my MX5 with the real intention of carrying out work but could not penetrate it's language. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The book starts you off with the history of cars and then dives right in with the 1st topic, giving colour pictures and excellent diagrams all described so even a dummy such as myself can get it once you have the basics down experience in the field will take you the rest but it's nice to have a starting block. The exams for any of the IMI qualifications in Britain are written to the material given in this book.

Well its a book so I got no problem with it because the availability was enough for me but I would've appreciated it more if they have delivered me a new one. Book 1 is also aligned with topics that students will have learned about in earlier stages of study. Plenty of diagrams, cross sectional diagrams and references to the diagrams so you know what you're looking at and also that you know what you're reading if it is describing a difficult-to-explain-without-diagrams part/component or process. Book 1 is similar to previous editions of Fundamentals of motor vehicle technology, but, with updated information. I have used other study books that I didn't really understand but the Hillier's book helped me so much that I probably wouldn't have passed Motor vehicles level 1 at college. Apart from the fact that it is Americanised: Britain and America have their own terminology regarding the subject, so it can be slightly confusing if you haven't got a lecturer to set you straight.
