I didn’t know what to expect from this book, I really had no clue what would happen and how it would end. There’s a lot of character build up and scene setting at the start so it did take me a while to understand where the story was going, but I found Cleo such an original and intriguing character that I was absolutely hooked by her story.

And this (illness, mental state, obsession) played a huge part within this thriller that gripped my full attention. It took me a while to get into this book, but once I did I couldn't stop thinking about what was going to happen to next and looked forward to the next time I could read it to find out. Not too sure how to describe this book, other than the fact that this is a unique book, a plot which I won’t forget. This was so close to being a five-star read for me but the only thing that made me drop half a star was because of how the story ended.

There are twists and turns galore, as I’ve come to expect from Koomson, but I did not see the ending coming at all and I was shocked, but in a good way. TW: racism, grooming, paedophilia, murder, sexism, misogyny, harassment, mental health, rape ⚠️ This was a really good slow burner that hits you with twists and turns when you least expect it. Bringing it back to present day and Cleo has moved on, she’s now married to Wallace but he’s connected to her past in such a way that it’s impossible that the past will not come back to haunt Cleo. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.We then go further back in time to 1996 to her days as a student at Leeds University where she becomes best friends with Trina.
