When the police suspect Starkey for the murder of Margaret and her mother, as well as the kidnapping of Patricia, Starkey is forced to tell the entire story to Parker. Frank reunites with old Joe, crazy Marvin and wily Victoria to uncover a massive conspiracy that threatens their lives.

He has some moral core – he can’t kill a gangster in cold blood when given the chance – but it’s wafer thin. Celé se to odehrává v době, kdy si to protestanti a katolíci rozdávali pěkně na férovku, každou chvíli někdo vyletěl do povětří a na životy lidí se moc nehrálo. Griffiths appears in a brief but spectacular role as a nurse temporarily dressed up as a sexy nun; she comes to the rescue when Starkey — who takes a great deal of punishment during the course of the film — needs urgent medical attention. Before this, however, Starkey is caught cheating on his wife Patricia with Margaret, a young art student. A British civil servant urges Starkey not to print his story, fearing for the consequences if the truth about Brinn gets out.Strange to think, but this was Thewlis' first lead role since his mesmerising, award-winning turn in Mike Leigh's Naked back in 1994.

Thewlis plays Dan Starkey, a newspaper columnist who doesn’t take his work too seriously, who drinks too much and whose wife is beginning to object to his behavior. When the bodies begin to pile up, Starkey is forced to go on the run with the help of Parker, the US journalist he has been guiding around, and Lee, an extraordinarily capable NHS nurse who pays the bills as a nun strip-o-gram. He spends a fair bit of the story far too drunk (which increasingly appeals very little to me as a reader: drunks tend to be out-of-control bores in fiction as well as real life).

Finally, a brief but hilarious cameo from the charming Bronagh Gallagher (The Commitments) as a taxi driver. Colin Batemanin "Voro-Jack" (Loki, 1998) on mustalla huumorilla ryyditetty jännitysromaani sukkelasanaisesta journalistista, joka eräänä yönä päätyy suutelemaan väärää naista ja ajautuu sen vuoksi keskelle vaarallista peliä.
