Description

Established in 1891, the distillery has maintained its commitment to traditional production methods, resulting in whiskies that showcase the rugged character of the surrounding landscape. In the Craigellachie Cask Finishing Collection, one can find the Craigellachie 13 Year Old Bas-Armagnac Cask, a unique addition that pays homage to their traditional worm tubs.

Unapologetic and distinct, CRAIGELLACHIE 13 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky boasts an old-fashioned whisky style and flavour that's rounded and muscular. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The bourbon casks bring vanilla, toffee and fudge notes to the fore, and the sherry casks provide richness and complexity. I wrote three simple words with untold consequences: “You are driving…” A transparent thimble of whisky was filled and we began discussing Craigellachie and what they were all about, and before long we had two thimbles going – the Craigellachie 17 was now on the table too.

Other distilleries with worm tubs include Talisker, the new Rosebank, Royal Lochnagar, Dalwhinnie, Edradour, Oban, Glenkinchie, Springbank and Pultney.By cooling the spirit in a worm tub, rather than condenser, the copper contact is reduced, thus it gives the spirit a more robust “meaty” flavour component due to the retention of these heavier compounds.

That said, some say the packaging is quite stylish and that it'd be a perfect winter drink neat or with ice. Like peat fired kilns develop a smokey peat taste in the Whisky, Craigellachie uses an oil-fired kiln which really imparts into the bottle.he asked, materialising a bottle of Craigellachie 13 from thin-air, and for a split second my answer was instinctively no, because I’m always the designated driver wherever we go. The first release in Craigellachie's Cask Collection is a 13-year-old single malt that was initially matured in combination of refill and re-char ex-bourbon barrels, before being finished for just over a year in Bas Armagnac casks from northernmost Gascony, France. Craigellachie was built in 1891 by the experienced whisky team of Peter Mackie and Alexander Edward. I’m finding my palate now sings most when I pass brighter, more bourbon-forward whiskies across it - especially whiskies that have a bit more complexity, such as Glen Scotia or the Abbey Whisky exclusive Benromach.
